Photo Description: This waterhole is a popular swimming spot for local Engadine and Sutherland Shire people in the warmer months of the year, it is called the needles and is where the salt water of the Woronora river stops and where there is only fresh water from this point south. The causeway was built between 1841 and 1843 by Sir Thomas Mitchell along with the pass of Sabugal and the Old Illawarra Highway which came down Barden Ridge across the river and back up through Engadine on route to the Five Islands district which is now the beautiful Illawarra region. It was initially planned to be the main road from Sydney to the Illawarra but was considered to steep and winding so it was scrapped in 1866 when the road through Sylvannia and Sutherland was constructed. The old Illawarra highway was built by chained convict gangs under the supervision of William Darke of whom the township of Darkes Forest is named after. Today the Old Illawarra Highway is a steep firetrail closed to traffic but open for bushwalkers.

Print Only's will have a signature on the back along with the photos location written in pencil. *All framed and matted prints and matted prints have the best matching matting colour selected to suit the photograph. This will either be off white, white or vivid white. If you purchase multiple photos we try to keep a themed colour that suits all photographs the best. *If you would like a matting colour other than white, we also can do grey, black and a variety of other colours, but you will need to contact us HERE to organise your request. *We can also do double matting with two different coloured mats overlaid but an additional fee of $10.00 applies. Contact us HERE to add a double mat to your photograph. All framed and matted prints and matted prints are set on a premium quality acid free Archival Mat Board to ensure a long life span for your photograph.**Framing is only available for selection on Framed and Matted products only, which is located on the first drop down product selection box.
